Welcome to Hall's Atlanta Floral Design School. On behalf of our school I'd like to offer our best wishes and sincere hopes for your future in the exciting world of floral design. Whether you are a novice or journeyman, we're sure that you'll find our curriculum rewarding, enlightening, and of course, educational. Terms of Enrollment: Primary and Professional Classes
(all 3-week classes)
- Courses are all-inclusive. Course fee will include: flowers, preps, containers, tools, literature, expert instruction.
- Class enrollment is based on a “first come-first served” availability.
- $150.00 retainer is required at time of registration. Retainer is non-refundable, and applies directly to tuition.
- Class size is limited to 12 students per class period, to insure more direct student/teacher interaction.
- Final tuition payment is due first day of class.
- Curriculum is based on an intensive thirty-two and one half (32.5) hour course of study, covering aspects of floral design from planning and purchasing, to high style design. For details of curriculum, please see curriculum outline.
- Students must attend a minimum of thirty hours of class to receive a certificate. Punctuality is encouraged.
Class structure: Primary and Advanced Classes
(all 3-week classes)
Hall’s Atlanta Floral Design School utilizes a fresh approach to teaching the intricacies of floral design. We offer a “hands–on” building class, with each student completing two to three arrangements per day. Intensive training sessions, integrated with a higher teacher-to-student ratio, and a progressive class structure, will allow students to advance rapidly.
- All materials will be provided, including fresh floral product, tools, preps, literature, and containers. Students are encouraged to bring containers or artifacts when prompted by instructor.
- All arrangements will be available to take home, after instructor’s review and grading.
- Classes will be held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
- First and last classes will be approximately four (4) hours long, to accommodate opening remarks and closing ceremonies.
- All classes will begin promptly at 9:00am, with a break between lecture and lab sessions. Classes will end at 12:30pm (except for first and last classes). Punctuality is essential to be courteous to other students. Classes will begin on time.
- Curriculum will be based on published curriculum outline, led by a certified instructor, with flexibility for questions and student input.
- One hour per day will be lecture, with question and answer. Lecture will be divided between labs. The remaining time will be allotted to “hands-on” lab time, in which the students will practice and demonstrate skills essential to floral design.
- $150.00 retainer (due upon registration / non-refundable) applies directly to tuition.
- HAFDS reserves the rights to cancel, postpone, or reschedule classes, based on participation levels or instructor illnesses. HAFDS will notify all registered students if there is any change in schedule.
- Charter Classes are available for groups of 10 or more (classes would be scheduled at your discretion).
- Garden Clubs, Junior League, and Church groups will be entitled to a percentage of discount or “cash-back” rebates, to be donated to their choice of charity or recipient.
Curriculum outline: Primary Class
First week curriculum will include (but is not limited to): Selection and purchasing of floral product, seasonal availability, care and handling, proper hydration, a field trip to the local wholesaler, preps, floral aid products, basic styles, line, weight, balance, color coordination, textural coordination, insertions, and vase work.
Second week curriculum will include (but is not limited to): Foliages and greening, fillers, mains, secondaries, mass production, timelines for production, Advanced styles, Biedermeier, European, working in different design mediums, and a “designer’s choice”.
Third week curriculum will include (but is not limited to): High Design, Ikebana, wedding specialties, bouquets and boutonnieres, chuppahs, arches, aisle markers, wedding styles, and cake décor, lighting and candles, final exam, and presentation of certificates.
Curriculum outline: Professional Class
First week curriculum will include (but is not limited to): Purchasing, management, planning, proposals, client relations, problem solving, prototyping, photographing, portfolios, case studies, sub-contracting, and networking. Labs in these areas of study will be conducted on paper, through role-playing, and in small groups.Second week curriculum will include (but is not limited to): centerpieces both social and corporate, aisle treatments, suspended ctrpcs, unusual and natural shapes, texture/color/shape stories.
Third week curriculum will include (but is not limited to): Ikebana, competitions, trends and styles, efficient mass-production, buffet/altar/stage arrangements, perimeter décor, and “style noveau”.

Curriculum outline: Single-Day classes
Single-day classes take place on scheduled Saturdays, from 9:00am until 3:00pm, with an hour break for lunch. All materials are included to build four (4) to (7) seven designs related to the specific nature of the class. Tools are provided. Classes for 2009 include: Ikebana, Wedding Specialties, Exotic centerpieces (I and II), and Beautiful Bouquets.- All single-day classes are first-come, first-served, and require a reservation. Reservations are established by submitting a non-refundable $50.00 retainer at the time of registration.
- Remaining balance for class will be due at the beginning of the class.
- Gift certificates are available through Hall’s.
- All single-day classes fill (max-out, close) when reservation status reaches 16 students. Classes and retainers are non-transferable.
